Father of fallen hero and Travis Manion Foundation Challenge Grant recipient Eric Herzberg presented Severna Park Senior High School students with several unique opportunities to serve in honor of his son, Lance Corporal Eric Herzberg, USMC. Eric shared memories at his son’s alma mater, where 38 juniors from the school’s Leadership Institute accepted the challenge to lead and participate in local Habitat for Humanity builds and the Fallen Heroes Project in honor of LCpl. Eric Herzberg.
a joy to read. sexy. mockingly philosophical. characters whose color/flavor/scent were second only to the detailed landscape of the epic and the perfume itself. whimsical imagery garnished with wit and vulgarity.
interesting take sam. here is what I thought about the book and my last will and testament:
1) true love 2) llamas (which I thought were actual llamas but actually were the praying kind. 3) lesbian sex on the shelf 4) pan’s flute and semen 5) jasmine 6) Byzantine 7) neutered Kingship 8) Life and Death- Mostly life 8) when I die I want to be put in an ice cube and sent out into space in a mini space ship hopefully to be found and brought back to life by aliens. this is a legal document. I want all my wealth left to Abby Scott. I want all my debt left to Samantha stanton. I want all my snacks left to Marc Stanton. Signed: Z.C. Scott
the way robbins writes is odd and refreshing. His wide range of metaphors made my head spin. His use of similes was also super. this was one of the stranger books I have read. And that means a lot.
it’s true…. he made you wait long and hard for intermittent wit, on a plot that was maddening- i don’t necessarily mean “maddening” in a bad way. however, i felt transported by this book in a rather atypical way. the silliness and accuracy of k’s social commentary was much appreciated. old book that manages to depict the bureaucratic process rather well, even if it served as a symbol. k mocked human impatience, arrogance, and shortness in a way we can all relate to. his character makes the flaws seem like points of pride. plus, he comes around…
“the only thing for me to go on doing is to keep my intelligence calm and analytical to the end. i always wanted to snatch at the world with twenty hands, and not for a very laudable motive, either. that was wrong, and am i to show now that not even a year’s trial has taught me anything? am i to leave this world a man who has no common sense? are people to say of me after i am gone that at the beginning of my case i wanted to finish it, and at the end of it i wanted to begin it again? i don’t want that to be said. i am grateful for the fact that these half-dumb, senseless creatures have been sent to accompany me on this journey, and that i have been left to say to myself all that is needed.” -k
